Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan refused to write a draft declaration of the Collective Security Council and a draft on joint measures to assist his country during the CSTO summit. The press service of the Armenian government reported that Pashinyan stated the need for a political assessment by the organization of Azerbaijan’s actions.

“Political assessment is necessary, first of all, from a moral point of view,” the statement is quoted. “This is also important from the point of view of restoring the territorial integrity of our country.”

According to him, Yerevan proposes by the decision of the CSTO Security Council to accelerate diplomatic work with Baku aimed at the immediate withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops to their starting positions as of May 11, 2021. Pashinyan added that “the absence of a clear political assessment” would mean “not only the CSTO’s rejection of allied obligations,” but could also be interpreted by the Azerbaijani side “as a green light from the CSTO for further aggression.”

At the same time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that “Armenia will certainly remain in the CSTO, despite the fact that not everything has been agreed.”
