MEP: Moldova will not join the EU in 20 years, but it can unite with Romania

Moldova will not become part of the European Union in the next 15-20 years, but will be able to ensure its security by uniting with Romania, Romanian MEP Eugen Tomak believes.

“The path to integration into the EU earlier than in 15-20 years cannot be discussed in any way, because the member states will not accept it,” Tomak said on the RFI TV channel.

He noted that the EU is only able to provide Moldova with economic support, and unification with Romania will give strategic stability. According to Tokmak, the decision to unite is the safest and fastest way that can be implemented at any time.

“Integration into the EU does not guarantee that the Russian Federation will not invade it [Moldova]. On the contrary, a peaceful and democratic alliance with Romania provides Moldova with stability from the point of view of security, since it [Romania] is a NATO member state,” the politician said.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu signed an application for the country’s accession to the European Union on March 3. European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Oliver Varheli handed over questionnaires to the Foreign Ministers of Georgia and Moldova on April 11 in Luxembourg to start the EU accession procedure. Moldova handed over the first part of the questionnaire to the EU representative on April 22, the second – on May 12.

Photo: Wikipedia.org .

American economist, World Bank President David Malpass, during a speech at the foundation of the US Chamber of Commerce, warned of a recession threatening the global economy due to the situation around Ukraine.

“Now it is not possible to see how we can avoid a recession,” he said, answering a question about the impact of the conflict taking place on the territory of Ukraine and the introduction of global sanctions against Russia on global GDP.

Malpass noted that the situation would be “bad” primarily for residents of Ukraine and Russia, but stressed that the impact would go beyond these two states.

Thus, the head of the World Bank pointed out, interruptions in grain supplies will hit Lebanon, which does not have its own reserves, and a number of other countries. And a reduction in Russian energy supplies will lead to a significant slowdown in the economy in the EU countries.

The FSB of Russia has banned singer Nargiz Zakirova from entering Russia for 50 years. This is stated in the document that was handed to her at Domodedovo airport.

There was no arrest or detention, which was previously reported by some media outlets. But the artist who flew from Uzbekistan to Moscow had to return home.

From now on, the 51-year-old singer, who has US citizenship, cannot come to Russia. Her lawyer Bahrom Ismailov confirmed this information.

“I have a decision to ban entry for 50 years. This is a standard ban that public figures who condemn the special operation receive. So this restriction was imposed on Nargiz Zakirova. Nargiz was ready for this,” the human rights activist said.

He added that the singer allowed such an outcome, but decided to remain true to her civic position.

Ismailov also stressed that the rumors about the institution of a criminal case against his ward are incorrect. Criticizing the Russian authorities and the special operation in Ukraine, she expressed her personal position.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has not received Italy’s plan for a settlement in Ukraine

Photo: Natalia Muschinkina

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday that the Italian Foreign Ministry had not sent any plan to resolve the situation in Ukraine to the Russian side.

According to her, Moscow has “only information from the media about a certain plan that Italian Foreign Minister Di Maio presented to the UN.”

Zakharova stressed this once again: “we received all the data on this subject only from the media.”

Therefore, the diplomat cannot comment on Italy’s proposals: “What can we say about the plan if you haven’t seen it?”.

Zakharova also said that judging by media reports, Italy’s plan can serve as an example of “armchair theorizing.”

The thoughts expressed in it, as the diplomat noted, “have not been tested in any way in practice, there is also no connection with the situation on the ground.”

And all this, according to her, “very poorly correlates with objective reality.”

Militarythimes: next week in Ukraine will be decisive

Photo: Global Look Press

In May, Russian troops broke through the positions of Ukrainians to the west of Popasna. Moscow took the city on May 8 and concentrated its units there, preparing for a larger assault. The main goal of the Russians was the highway leading from Bakhmut to Lisichansk and Severodonetsk.

As noted by Neil Hauer, a journalist and analyst at the Militarythimes publication, these are the last Ukrainian outposts in the Luhansk region. They will be the scene of fierce fighting over the next few weeks. The situation on the ground shows that Russian troops are close to their goal.

Just a few days ago, Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby stated that Moscow is far behind its plans, because small villages and villages in the Donbas change hands several times a day.

However, according to the journalist, the “breath of war” is already strongly felt near Bakhmut. The Ukrainian military claims that the forces of the Russian coalition are literally five kilometers away. The city of Zolotoye is actually already surrounded by Russians. Their any further advance may force Ukrainians to leave the city and go further west.

Russia continues its offensive throughout the Donbas. This week will be crucial for Ukraine’s prospects of holding the region and Russia’s chances of capturing it.

The political scientist explained the introduction of an emergency in Hungary: bypassing anti-Russian sanctions

Viktor Orban. Photo: Wikipedia.org .

Political scientist Alexander Asafov commented on the decision of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to introduce a state of emergency in the country. Earlier, Orban noted that the world is now on the verge of an economic crisis due to the conflict in Ukraine and anti-Russian sanctions.

As Asafov explained in an interview News.ru Orban’s decision is logical in light of Hungary’s blocking of the sixth package of sanctions against Russia.

“A state of emergency to save the economy may imply unpleasant decisions for Europeans and Americans,” the expert said. He suggested that Hungary would continue to purchase hydrocarbons from Russia and, possibly, some other Russian goods, explaining this by the need to save its economy.

Asafov recalled that Hungary put forward two proposals for compensation for the costs of building new oil pipelines, but the European Union did not respond to this in any way. That is why Orban said that the introduction of a state of emergency would provide Hungary with “room for maneuver” and “the ability to react in a timely manner.”
