Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Vladimir Putin will not be able to take part in the climate summit in Glasgow, which will be held this week.

“Unfortunately, the president will not be speaking in Glasgow. There is no possibility of speaking via videoconference,” he said.

At the same time, the press secretary of the president said that a conference on the use and conservation of forests will be held within the framework of the summit, and Vladimir Putin has already recorded an address to its participants.

Peskov recalled that the topic to be discussed in Glasgow “largely echoes the climate theme at the G20,” and in his speech Vladimir Putin realized the opportunity to outline in detail the approaches of the Russian Federation on this issue.

Responding to Joe Biden’s criticism that Russia and China “de facto did not appear (at the G20 summit) in terms of any commitments to combat climate change,” Peskov said that Russia was very actively involved in the work of the G20, and speeches  Putin’s comments were very informative. In addition, weeks earlier, the Russian president outlined a benchmark for the transition to hydrocarbon neutrality.”

“Russia has clearly outlined its prospects, and in many respects is already ahead of many countries, including Western Europe, in switching to less carbon-intensive production methods,” Peskov stressed.
