Relations between Beijing and Washington have been seriously undermined by the visit to Taiwan of the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress Nancy Pelosi, the Chinese Embassy in the United States said.
The corresponding text is posted on the embassy’s website.
The statement said that the visit also undermined peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region. The Embassy said that it had previously sent a corresponding statement to the White House.
According to the embassy statement, all responsibility for what happened lies with the American side. “This has seriously undermined peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and Sino-American relations,” the statement reads. The Chinese Embassy also called Washington’s accusations that China is escalating tensions “completely groundless and false”.
Earlier, in response to the visit of the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan, Beijing canceled a working meeting of representatives of the military ministries of China and the United States, and also suspended cooperation with the United States in the framework of regional military cooperation, on the topic of maritime security, negotiations on climate change, cooperation on drug control, partnership in the field of justice, repatriation, combating international crime and illegal migration.
