According to US State Department spokesman Ned Price, Washington will support Lithuania if the Russian side begins to take any military measures. He stressed that Lithuania is a member of NATO, so an attack on this country would mean an attack on the entire military bloc.
“We will support our allies in the alliance, we support Lithuania. Our commitment to the fifth article of NATO — the postulate that an attack on one will mean an attack on all — is unbreakable,” Price said.
Earlier, the Lithuanian authorities banned the transit of some goods to the territory of the Kaliningrad region. After that, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev arrived in the Russian enclave. He noted that NATO forces are increasing their presence near Russia’s northwestern borders. Patrushev promised to respond to the blockade of the region, stressing that the consequences will have a serious negative impact on the population of Lithuania.
