Chinese readers of the portal “Guancha” sympathized with former German Chancellor Angela Merkel after her admission that she was not allowed to establish a dialogue with the Russian Federation before the start of a special military operation in Ukraine.
Many netizens drew attention to the fact that Merkel acted not only in the German interests, but also in the whole world, but faced rejection of her point of view. The current German leadership is facing the results of this problem.
“The Germans pretend they don’t see that there are still occupiers from the West on their own land,” one commentator wrote.

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that in the summer of 2021 she was going to create a new separate European format of negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin together with Emmanuel Macron in the Council of the European Union, but her proposal was met with objections. Angela Merkel left her post in December 2021, Olaf Scholz took her place.
