China is acting irresponsibly by suspending cooperation with the United States in a number of areas, John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, said at a briefing.
Earlier, in response to the visit of the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan, Beijing canceled a working meeting of representatives of the military ministries of China and the United States, and also suspended cooperation with the United States in the framework of regional military cooperation, on the topic of maritime security, negotiations on climate change, cooperation on drug control, partnership in the field of justice, repatriation, fight against international crime and illegal migration.
Kirby called the areas in which China announced the curtailment of cooperation, including the dialogue on climate change, “vital”. “This is fundamentally irresponsible,” Kirby said.
Earlier, the Chinese embassy in the United States said that relations between Beijing and Washington were seriously undermined by Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.
