The United States purposefully destroyed its own consular service in the Russian Federation. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.
Earlier, the United States expressed concern that the activities of American diplomatic missions in the Russian Federation may soon be reduced only to the protection of the buildings of embassies and consulates.
Due to the ban on American diplomatic missions to hire Russian citizens to work, the performance of consular functions has actually stopped. For example, Russians now need to get a visa to the USA in other countries.
