Spain wants to knock out their Catalan separatists 5.4 million euros

The newspaper El Pais reported that the accounting chamber of Spain will demand more than 1.9 million euros from the former head of the Catalan government, Carles Puigdemont, for promoting separatist ideas abroad. The agency will demand the same amount from the former deputy head of the Catalan government, Oriol Junqueras, who was convicted for the 2017 independence referendum and pardoned by the decision of the Spanish cabinet.

In total, the Spaniards hope to get money out of 39 people involved in Catalan separatism. In total, Madrid wants to receive 5.4 million euros. According to the Spanish authorities, this is the amount they spent on popularizing their views abroad from 2011 to 2017.

At the same time, Puigdemont is currently in Belgium. Spain demands his extradition.
