In the State Duma, on behalf of the chairman of the Chamber Vyacheslav Volodin, amendments to Articles 20.3.3 of the Administrative Code, Articles 207.3 and 280.3 of the Criminal Code have been developed and are being discussed, introducing “additional grounds for establishing responsibility for discrediting participants in hostilities, including volunteer organizations,” Vedomosti reports with reference to the publication in Telegram of the head of the Security and Anti-corruption Committee Vasily Piskarev.

The point, the newspaper explains, is to prohibit the media from mentioning in publications that some members of volunteer formations have served time in prison.

The newspaper also told in detail who initiated the development of additions to the articles on discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the Wagner PMC, addressed the Duma with a corresponding request earlier. In it, he noted that many volunteers, including those previously convicted, take part in the SVO, but the media, bloggers and Telegram channels seek out “negative information” about them and publish it, exposing the combatants as “villains and criminals” as a result.

Prigozhin proposes to punish for violating the ban, according to the publication, for a five-year term.

However, according to the information provided by the newspaper, it is not yet possible to reliably judge the attitude of Duma members to the new amendments.
