American businessman Elon Musk decided to postpone the purchase of Twitter in May because of the upcoming speech of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of Victory Day. This became known from his correspondence with the banker who was engaged in the agreement. In it, Musk noted that the deal would not make sense if “the world is approaching World War III.”
As a result, the entrepreneur asked to slow down the deal “for just a few days.” “Putin’s speech tomorrow is really important,” Business Insider reports about the circumstances of the correspondence.
The lawyers of the social network stressed that these statements by Musk indicate that the refusal to purchase the platform was caused by concern for personal finances, and not by Twitter’s non-compliance with its obligations.
In August, the billionaire won a court case against Twitter. Now the company will have to provide the businessman with files from the ex-general manager for spam accounts and bot accounts requested by Musk during the conclusion of a deal to purchase a social network.
Musk signed an agreement with Twitter to acquire the company on April 25, 2022 for $ 44 billion. The deal was supposed to close before the end of this year. However, on July 9, the billionaire refused it. Musk announced violations of Twitter provisions of the concluded agreement.
