The Parliament (Assembly) of Montenegro has passed a vote of no confidence in the government of the country headed by Dritan Abazovich, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the broadcast on the website of the legislative assembly.
The vote was initiated by Milo Djukanovic’s former ruling Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and its partner parties. This was argued by the fact that the government did not fulfill the promise to approach EU membership within 100 days.
The decision was made by a majority vote on Saturday night, 68 out of 81 deputies voted for it.
The current government will technically remain in office until a new parliamentary majority is formed. Even before the vote, Prime Minister Abazovich declared the “victory of the DPS”, and noted that the real reason for passing a vote of no confidence in his government was the signing of a Fundamental agreement with the Serbian Orthodox Church, which Djukanovic opposed, and the fight against crime and corruption close to the DPS.
