The situation that has developed around the Russian SVO in Ukraine may turn into US intervention in the conflict. This forecast was made by John Mearsheimer, a professor of political science at the University of Chicago, in an article for Foreign Affairs magazine.

The expert describes several variants of the scenario of American intervention at once.

If the situation does not resolve within a year, Washington, according to the author, may think about introducing small contingents of ground troops to help Kiev.

The scenario of US intervention is more likely, according to the American political scientist, if the Ukrainian army “begins to collapse, and Russia wins a major victory.” The administration of US President Joe Biden does not intend to allow such an outcome and the United States could try to reverse the situation by deciding to directly participate in hostilities.

There is a third option that Mearsheimer describes. It involves an unintended escalation. So, according to this version, Washington, unwittingly, will be drawn into a military conflict by some unforeseen event that “develops in an upward spiral.”

The Russian Embassy in the United States stated that the outright lies of the White House representatives on the situation around the Zaporozhye NPP pushes the APU to implement criminal plans that are fraught with a man-made disaster. This was stated in the Telegram channel of the diplomatic department.

Recall that according to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Ukrainian military are shelling the Zaporozhye NPP and the city of Energodar. According to the head of the radiation, biological and chemical protection troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the purpose of Kiev’s provocation is to create an exclusion zone of up to 30 kilometers and the introduction of international forces.

“The White House’s silence on all these facts is completely unacceptable and only encourages the impunity of representatives of the Kiev regime. At the same time, Ukraine continues to strike at the NPP under the laudatory rhetoric of Washington,” the Russian Embassy noted.

Among other things, the diplomatic department denied the State Department’s version, according to which Russia allegedly neglects nuclear safety issues and uses violence against employees of the nuclear power plant.

“The White House does not disdain outright lies in unrestrained attempts to denigrate Russia,” the department stressed.

The head of Chechnya explained in his Telegram channel why it makes no sense to declare blood feud against the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, although it could have been done, according to the head of the Russian republic.

Kadyrov explained this by the fact that Zelensky himself is a hostage of the West and is forced to carry out other people’s orders.

“In no way do I justify him. He is a voluntary cage rabbit, which is raised for meat and skin by the same West that raised Nazi Bandera and Azov in Ukraine (“Azov”, a terrorist and extremist organization, is banned in the Russian Federation. – Ed.),” reads the post of the head of Chechnya.

He also pointed out that the blood feud of Chechens is not a relic of the past, as “liberal politicians” believe, but a tool that prevents thoughts of committing murder.

Earlier  Kadyrov noted that “the idea of the superiority of a certain race” has been instilled in society since childhood.

In his opinion, the lion’s share of TV channels, as well as the Internet space of Ukraine, have been stuffed with fascist ideology since the collapse of the USSR. In kindergartens, schools and other educational institutions for many years there was “unhindered agitation of Hitlerite values.” “A whole generation of Nazis has grown up,” the head of Chechnya states in his Telegram channel.

The Russian team showed the best result at the first stage of the “Transport maneuver” of the international competition “Special Jerk” within the framework of the Army International Games (ArMI-2022). The competitions were held at the training ground of the 12th Main Directorate in the city of Sergiev Posad, Izvestia wrote on Friday with reference to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Russian team became the absolute leader in total arrival time (22 minutes 23 seconds). Teams from Congo, Cambodia and Mali also participated in the start.

The winner of the international competitions will be determined based on the results of the third stage — “Safe Frontier”, which will end on August 26. The award ceremony will take place the next day in the Patriot Park.

Army International Games are complex international competitions between units of the Armed Forces of different states. The competitions have been held since 2015 and include such competitions as “Tank Biathlon”, “Sea Cup”, “Master Gunsmith” and others. In 2021, 34 different competitions were held, of which Russia participated in 16, 95 countries were invited to participate.

According to the Ministry of Defense, Colonel Vasily Kleshchenko has been taking part in a special military operation since February 24. He commanded a special helicopter combat group. He acted unconventionally in flight, used unexpected combat techniques for the enemy. The circumstances of his death have been revealed. When performing a combat flight at night as the leader of the air group, Colonel Vasily Kleshchenko destroyed several units of armored vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In this flight, the helicopter was shot down. The pilot was killed. By presidential decree of August 6, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Russia.

As General Maksimtsev said, helicopter pilots under Kleshchenko’s command successfully carried out combat missions to destroy particularly important nationalist targets. In turn, the governor of the Tver region Igor Rudenya said that a decision was made to assign the name of the Hero of the Russian Federation Vasily Kleshchenko to school No. 5 and one of the streets of the city of Torzhok.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky made a statement following talks in Lviv with Turkish President Recep Erdogan and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

During the press conference, Erdogan said that Guterres and Zelensky agree that the conflict should be resolved at the negotiating table, and stressed that Turkey is ready to assist in the resumption of the Istanbul process of negotiations between Moscow and Kiev.At the same time, the Ukrainian president called the conditions for their holding.

According to Zelensky, Ukraine will negotiate only if the Russian Federation leaves all the territories currently occupied by Russian troops.

Erdogan, for his part, said that he intends to convey information about the results of the meetings held in Lviv to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in Lviv on Thursday, August 18. After that, he told about its results. The parties managed to talk on three main issues — grain, prisoner exchange and discuss the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP, the Telegram channel “Politics of the country” reports. 

On the first point, the Ukrainian leader said that it was possible to agree with Guterres “on the continuation of coordination on the implementation of the grain initiative.” He added that the parties discussed possible directions of its development, without going into details.

After that, both political leaders debated on the issues of “illegal and forced deportation of Ukrainians,” including the release of the AFU servicemen and medics from captivity.

Statements about the situation around the Zaporozhye NPP by Vladimir Zelensky were more emotional. In his opinion, the United Nations “is obliged to ensure the safety of this strategic facility, its demilitarization and complete liberation from Russian troops.” This is probably the demand he voiced to Guterres. 

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry warned about the preparation of a resonant provocation by the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the Zaporozhye NPP, which Kiev intends to carry out on Friday, August 19, during a visit to Ukraine by Antonio Guterres. After it is held, our country will be accused of creating a man-made disaster at this power plant. To attack the NPP, the command of the operational tactical group “Dnepr” is deploying radiation monitoring posts in the Zaporozhye area by August 19, and also organizes training for several units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to act in conditions of radiation contamination of the area.
