White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki commented on the phrase of Russian President Vladimir Putin “like, dislike, bear with me, my beauty”, which he addressed to Ukraine. She thought it was a rape joke. The transcript of Psaki’s next briefing is published on the White House website.

“Any joke about rape is sure to cause outrage among absolutely everyone in the US presidential administration, regardless of whether it comes from the mouth of an American or a foreign official,” Psaki said.

She noted that Putin’s phrase “does not cause admiration” in Washington. The White House spokeswoman added that the American authorities have never hidden their reactions to the bellicose rhetoric coming from the Russian leader.

Putin uttered the phrase about the “beauty” during a joint press conference with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron in Moscow. The Kremlin later explained that it meant the need for Kiev to fulfill its obligations spelled out in the Minsk agreements.
