According to the German TV channel ZDF, against the background of the threat of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Swedish army is working out scenarios to protect the largest island in the Baltic Sea Gotland.
Swedish generals are sure that after Ukraine, Russia can turn its attention to the Baltic States. As Niklas Granholm, an expert at the Swedish Defense Research Institute, explained, if someone starts aggression against the Baltic states, then Gotland will be in the center of attention, since it is here that one of the centers of coordination of NATO forces on the Baltic Sea is located.
“Of course, we are carrying out a lot of military actions in Europe. This means that the situation has become tense. However, here, on Gotland, it is really calm now,” said Matthias Ardin, commander of the Gotland regiment of the Swedish army.
