The Mayor of Poltava, Alexander Mamai, expressed the opinion that the conflict in Donbass is a confrontation between Russia and the United States. He made such a statement on the air of the Nash TV channel.
According to the official, “two superpowers are fighting in the east of Ukraine.” At the same time, Mamai noted that the younger generation of Ukrainians has a negative attitude to the idea of external governance of the country.
“Communicating a lot with the residents of our city, I am becoming more and more convinced myself personally, and I see the position of the population. It’s a shame that brother is going to brother,” he stressed.
The mayor also pointed out the harm of economic sanctions imposed by Kiev since 2014. As an example, he cited the Poltava electromechanical plant “Ltava”, where several thousand people previously worked. According to Mamai, now the company cannot “work for Russia”, so people remain unemployed.
