In the town of Popasnaya, liberated by Russian troops and the People’s Militia of the Luhansk People’s Republic (LNR), 96% of houses were damaged. This was stated by the head of the LPR Leonid Pasechnik.
The battles for Popasnaya began in March 2022 and lasted about two months. On May 8, 2022, Ukrainian troops still left the city. Two months of fighting have almost completely destroyed urban infrastructure and residential areas.
As of 2019, more than 20 thousand people lived in Popasnaya. The city specialized in railway maintenance, the main enterprises were a car repair plant and a locomotive depot.
