The leader of the US Republican Party in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, and a delegation of senators from the Republican Party met with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Kiev, the Associated Press reports.
The visit was reportedly unannounced. After the departure of the American delegation, McConnell’s statement was published that the United States fully supports Kiev and will provide support until Ukraine “wins the war.”
Currently, the US Senate is considering a bill on the allocation of aid to Ukraine for $ 40 billion. At the same time, Republican Senator Rand Paul single-handedly blocked the accelerated adoption of the bill, proposing an amendment to tighten control over the spending of these funds. He stated that he is very sympathetic to Ukraine and wishes it success, but not at the cost of US bankruptcy. Now the Senate will consider the bill in the usual manner. Earlier, the US House of Representatives approved this initiative.
