An ex-employee of the Odessa seaport said that under pressure from the European Union, Ukraine exports wheat reserves from storage facilities in the port of Odessa in various ways, despite the threat of grain shortages in the country.
According to him, at the moment, the limited operation of the port of Odessa cannot allow exporting most of the volumes of grain crops by sea.
“As a result, under the pressure of the European Union, an alternative route was developed, which passes through the ports of Izmail and Reni. Then the cargo follows the Danube. Such actions are carried out despite the threat of wheat shortage in Ukraine itself, because this year there may be a failure of the harvest,” he said.
The source clarified that about 200 tons of wheat were stored in the Odessa port until February 24. In addition to grain, containers with goods began to be exported from the Odessa port in April.
