The head of the DPR Denis Pushilin said that the territory of the Mariupol plant “Azovstal” is now definitely not subject to restoration. At the beginning of the month, representatives of the republic did not rule out that the enterprise could be repaired after prolonged attempts to storm and returned to work.
So, the adviser to the head of the DPR government, Yan Gagin, stated on May 7 that “it is still unknown how they (the factory buildings. – “MK”) suffered, which can be used.” He also called it premature to discuss the prospects of including the plant in the economy of the region: “We do not know the state of the enterprise and we do not know what state it will be in.”
Pushilin said on May 18 that the fate of the enterprise was definitely decided: the plant will be demolished. At the same time, the authorities of the DPR want to restore the Ilyich Metallurgical Plant located in Mariupol.
Pushilin spoke about the prospects of the Metal Plant back in April and at the same time expressed doubts about Azovstal, focusing on ecology. In particular, he stated that Azovstal “did not allow the city to become a resort,” but the Ilyich Combine was built taking into account the wind rose and did not pollute the city.
A park zone or a technopark may appear on the site of Azovstal, Pushilin said.
Pushilin, among other things, said that more than 60% of residential buildings in Mariupol are not subject to restoration.
