The French newspaper Figaro reported that Germany, France and Italy are in favor of an early diplomatic settlement of the situation that has developed in Ukraine.
According to the politician Nicolas Baveret, this is possible even at the cost of territorial concessions from Ukraine in favor of Russia. He clarified that the visit of the leaders of the three countries to Kiev, which took place earlier, highlighted the split among the European community on the settlement of the situation in Ukraine.
“Statements regarding the status of a candidate for EU membership, as well as the provision of military assistance to Ukraine, cannot hide the growing differences within the democracies regarding the goals of the conflict,” Baveret said.
He clarified that at the moment European society is divided into those who support sanctions against Moscow and those who advocate the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict through diplomacy.
The publication clarifies that the countries of the eastern bloc of the European Union, led by Great Britain, are aimed at further strengthening the confrontation with the Russian Federation, however, Western European countries are rumored to advocate a diplomatic path.
