During the one hundred percent fullness of gas storage facilities, Germany would be able to hold out without Russian gas for 2.5 months of winter. This was announced by the chairman of the Federal Network Agency (FSA) (the regulator of the Federal Republic of Germany) Klaus Mueller against the background of a reduction in fuel imports from Russia.
“If the [gas] storage facilities in Germany were mathematically 100% full, we could completely do without Russian gas for only 2.5 months, and then the storage tanks would be empty,” Muller said on the ZDF TV channel.
In addition, he noted that despite the fact that the situation with gas imports in Germany is tense, the situation remains stable. Mueller also stressed that the country needs to look for new suppliers and save gas.
At the same time, it is worth noting that Germany can reach the third, maximum degree when the market can no longer provide itself with gas on its own. Then the role of distributor will be assumed by the FSA, which will decide who receives gas in priority order.
