A delegation of US congressmen led by Senator Ed Markey has arrived in Taiwan, the island’s Foreign Ministry said.
“Vice Foreign Minister Yu Dalei warmly welcomed Senator Markey and his cross-party delegation,” the statement said. At the same time, the head of the delegation is called “an old friend of Taiwan.”
According to the American Institute in Taiwan, the delegation included five congressmen who will meet with high-ranking Taiwanese officials. The US-Island relations, regional security, trade, investment and other important issues will be discussed, as reported in the official release.
It is reported that the visit to Taipei is taking place as part of a larger trip to the Indo-Pacific region.
