The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, told The Guardian that Kiev cannot guarantee the protection of a group of IAEA inspectors on the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP.

He called what was happening around the station a “mess” and told Director General Rafael Grossi that the safety of the mission was his personal responsibility. The head of the IAEA replied that Ukraine had fulfilled its international obligations and assumed all subsequent risks.

Galushchenko admitted that Grossi had some “security agreements” with Russia, and admitted that the organization’s mission would end in a few days. The head of the IAEA should return to Novoaleksandrivka, which is under the control of Ukraine, today.

The Ukrainian state nuclear company Energoatom announced that five experts will remain at the NPP until September 3. Four and nine mission vehicles left the territory of the station
