The Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, Tatiana Moskalkova, said in her Telegram channel that five of the sailors held in the Ukrainian port are seriously ill.
She appealed to the Council of Europe, the OSCE and the UN to help in the immediate return of the crews of Russian civilian sailors to their homeland.
According to her, Russian sailors have been detained at Ismail ship repair plants since February of this year. They are not allowed to leave their vessels.
“At the moment there are 66 sailors on the ships. Five of them are seriously ill. Sailors are strictly forbidden to go ashore, each vessel has an armed guard,” Moskalkova added.
