Macron urged Putin to quickly stop the special operation in Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron, during a telephone conversation, called on Russian Leader Vladimir Putin to stop the special operation in Ukraine as soon as possible. This is reported by the Elysee Palace.

Paris also announced another conversation between the two presidents in the coming days. In addition, they reported on further contacts with Kiev and the IAEA in order to reach an agreement on the safety of the Zaporozhye NPP. In particular, Macron demanded that Russian troops withdraw their heavy and light weapons from there. According to him, this is necessary in order to take appropriate measures according to the recommendations of the IAEA to ensure the safety of the facility.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron. The Kremlin noted that the conversation took place on the initiative of the French side. It was reported that the presidents discussed the situation in Ukraine, in particular, ensuring the safety of the Zaporozhye NPP. Putin also told Macron that Ukrainian troops were shelling the station, as well as using Western weapons to strike at civilian infrastructure in the Donbass.

The previous telephone talks between Putin and Macron took place on August 19 and were the first since spring.
