A farewell ceremony with Queen Elizabeth II has begun in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. Her coffin was carried through the streets of the city to the Cathedral of St. Aegidius. It is there that the prayer service will be held.
All this time, all four of the monarch’s children were following the hearse. Among them was the infamous Prince Andrew. He was previously accused of rape. Based on these rumors, he was stripped of some titles.
This whole situation resulted in a scandal that occurred right during the ceremony. At some point, a young man from the crowd started shouting to Prince Andrew: “You are a sick old man!”As a result, the guy was tied up by the police, and the ceremony continued. A video of the incident appeared on the Network.
According to the BBC, the coffin with the queen’s body has already arrived at St. Aegidius Cathedral. He will stay there for the next 24 hours. Everyone will be able to say goodbye to the queen.
In addition to Andrew, King Charles III took part in the funeral procession. Also behind the hearse were Prince Edward and Princess Anne, along with her husband, and Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Lawrence. They were followed by a car with Queen Consort Camilla and Prince Edward’s wife, Countess Sophie of Wessex.
According to the Daily Mail, Prince Andrew, despite the scandal and the loss of a number of titles, was still allowed to wear a military uniform to the last memorial service for the queen. This is done “as a sign of special respect” to the deceased monarch. At the same time, Prince Harry was not allowed to wear a uniform.
Earlier, the procession with the Queen’s coffin left the Scottish Balmoral Castle, where Elizabeth II died. The Queen’s funeral is due to take place on September 19 in London.
Prince Andrew was at the center of a scandal after allegations of rape of American Virginia Giuffre. The woman claimed that he abused her when she was 17 years old. After this accusation, Andrew was deprived of honorary military ranks, royal patronage and the opportunity to use the title “His royalYour Highness”. The prince himself did not admit the charges, but earlier it was reported that he was able to settle the lawsuit and promised to pay compensation.
