After calls from representatives of Ukraine to the Georgian leadership to open a “second front” in the country against Russia, they said they were ready to organize a referendum to find out what the population thinks about it. At the same time, the ruling party of Georgia does not support this idea.
This was stated at a briefing on Tuesday by the chairman of the Georgian Dream party, Irakli Kobakhidze.
“We can conduct a poll, a plebiscite, whether people want to open a second front in Georgia or not,” he said.
According to him, “people should make a decision whether they agree with senior officials of the Ukrainian government or they agree with our position regarding the non-opening of the second front.”
The Chairman of the Georgian Dream noted that a number of high-ranking officials of Ukraine directly stated how desirable it is to open a second front in Georgia.
“This is their position,” he said. According to him, if the citizens of Georgia want to open a second front, the authorities can discuss this issue with them later. If not, they will “stick to the decision already made.”
Earlier, a number of Ukrainian politicians made various statements regarding Georgia against the background of the Russian special operation.
On September 12, Rada deputy Fyodor Venislavsky said that the Georgian people have a unique opportunity to force the authorities to “take concrete steps and liberate Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” since Moscow is now completely focused on Ukraine.
