Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov said on Saturday that the country would not give up a single meter of its land.
“The issue of disputed borders has always been accompanied by conflicts and victims,” Zhaparov said on his official page on the social network.
At the same time, he stressed: “we will not give anyone a single meter of our land, which we inherited from our ancestors.”
The President also said that Kyrgyzstan will “firmly defend national interests.”
At the same time, the head of state explained that the issue of delimitation of borders with Tajikistan is “on the agenda” now. “We have already defined the borders with Uzbekistan, it remains only to reflect this on paper,” he recalled and added about Tajikistan: “work continues, the issue of borders requires a careful and balanced approach.”
Zhaparov expressed his condolences to the families of those killed during the armed border conflict and assured that the state would provide the victims with everything necessary.
The conflict with the use of weapons began on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border on September 14. Skirmishes between servicemen took place in three places in the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan. 24 people were killed, 103 were admitted to hospitals with injuries. More than 136 thousand local residents were evacuated from the conflict zone.
