The plan of consultations signed by Serbia and Russia between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries caused dissatisfaction with the US Ambassador in Belgrade Christopher Hill. He demanded to explain on what grounds the document was adopted.
U.S. Ambassador Hill said he would like to know what kind of agreement Moscow and Belgrade signed at a time when “good negotiations” were held between the United States and Serbia at the UN session.
According to Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, the republic was under strong pressure from the European Union after the speech of the country’s President Aleksandar Vucic at the UN. Now the pressure has intensified because of a document that has not even been adopted by the government of the country and has no legal force.
Serbia considers it necessary to maintain friendly relations with Russia and China upon joining the European Union and against the background of the development of relations in the United States. Belgrade does not want to join military-political blocs and intends to maintain military neutrality.
Earlier, Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic reported that the document on coordination of foreign policy with Russia repeats the 1996 agreement.
