Russia was not re-elected to the Council International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Earlier, the ICAO marked Russia with a “red flag” due to alleged problems with flight safety. This was reported in the Association of Tour Operators of Russia. Previously, only Bhutan and Eritrea received this status.
In the summer, it was reported that the ICAO announced problems with flight safety in the Russian Federation due to the double registration of aircraft and called for violations to be eliminated by September 14. They promised otherwise to make publicly available information about “significant security concerns.” According to the organization, Russia is not able to control the safety of flights on aircraft with dual registration.
ATOR at the same time stated that neither the double registration itself nor the “red flag” from the ICAO “does not yet make Russian aircraft less safe.” The decision was made “against the background of the aggravation of the geopolitical situation.”
