Germany has received a note demanding reparations from Poland, which will be studied. This was reported in the German Foreign Ministry. The appeal will be studied. It will be answered.
As the representative of the German Foreign Ministry Christopher Burger pointed out, in general, Germany’s position on this issue is already known.
Earlier, Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau signed a note in which Warsaw demanded reparations from Berlin for damage caused by occupation during World War II. Rau noted that the payment of reparations by Germany would make it possible to show “an example of overcoming the traumas that arose as a result of imperial policies.”
In early September, Warsaw announced that they were demanding $1.3 trillion in reparations from Germany. Subsequently, the Polish Sejm overwhelmingly supported the relevant initiative. As a result, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the demands of the Polish authorities could lead to an increase in revisionism and a change in the borders of the two countries “according to historical documents.”
