Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalyn said in an interview with CNN that Ankara understands that Russian leader Vladimir Putin wants to sign a new big deal with the West.
“In part, this undoubtedly applies to Ukraine,” Kalyn said, adding that therefore Turkey continues to believe that there is a possibility of resuming negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
“The whole question is when we will come to this and how much damage will be done before that,” Kalyn said.
He also said that in Moscow’s opinion, the agreements concluded under Presidents Mikhail Gorbachev and Boris Yeltsin do not reflect the current situation and therefore Russia would like to conclude a new deal.
