The people of Taiwan are not going to compromise on issues of sovereignty and democratic freedoms, the head of the island’s administration, Tsai Ing-wen, said on Monday, as quoted by the Central Taiwan News Agency (CNA).
According to her, the main consensus of the Taiwanese people, the ruling and opposition parties is that there is no compromise on issues of sovereignty and a way of life based on the principles of democratic freedoms. The head of the administration noted this in her speech in connection with the celebration of the “two dozen” holiday dedicated to the beginning of the Xinhai Revolution in China, after which the creation of the Republic of China was proclaimed.
In addition, Tsai Ing-wen stressed that confrontation “is absolutely not an option for both sides.” As specified, peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, respect for the aspirations of the inhabitants of the peninsula for sovereignty, democracy and freedom are the basis for the resumption of positive development of relations between the parties.
