The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrel, said he was concerned about the number of countries that abstained from voting on the resolution refusing to recognize referendums.
According to him, the EU is generally pleased that more than 140 supported the resolution.
“But at the same time, I am concerned because there are too many abstainers. 20% of the world community decided not to support or reject,” he said at the opening of the European Diplomatic Academy, adding that it was too much for him.
Recall that 143 countries voted for the UN resolution, 35 abstained, five opposed. In addition to Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Syria and Nicaragua did not support the resolution. Among the abstainers are India, China, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Pakistan, and a number of African countries.
