India has tested a missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead

The Ministry of Defense of India announced the successful testing of a new ballistic missile Agni Prime (Agni-P). This medium-range ground-based missile is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.

On October 21, a missile with a range of 2,000 km was launched from the test site on Abdul Kalam Island in the Bay of Bengal . The military said that during the test, all the tasks were completed. “With great accuracy,” the department stressed.

This is the third launch of a two-stage solid-fuel rocket. It is developed on the basis of the Agni-II ballistic missile, but has a more advanced guidance system. The missile is capable of carrying a separable warhead with two warheads with a total weight of up to three tons.      

Currently, India has five types of ballistic missiles of different ranges. All of them, as officially confirmed, are capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.

India, according to Western media, is currently developing a new ballistic missile Agni – with a range of 10 thousand km.
