Twenty to thirty percent of Germans do not support arms supplies to Ukraine and anti-Russian sanctions. This was told by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in an interview with Welt. At the same time, he clarified that this is his subjective impression of communicating with the citizens of his country.
Scholz admitted that among those who disagree with the actions of the official German authorities are representatives of almost all German political parties – from the Christian Democratic Union and the Greens to the Social Democrats. “I argue with the doubters and explain to them the reasons for our decisions,” Scholz said.
The Chancellor also stressed that many in Germany consider the course of the German government to be correct, but different opinions need to be taken into account. Scholz believes that they should not be overlooked if “we want to stick together as a society.”
