The orientalist explained why the Defense Minister is obliged to see a threat in the new authorities of Afghanistan
Russian political scientist and orientalist Yevgeny Satanovsky commented on the statement of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who earlier warned about the danger of the current situation in Afghanistan. The concern of the head of the defense department was caused by the huge stocks of weapons and equipment that went to the Taliban movement (the organization is recognized as a terrorist organization in the Russian Federation and is banned) after the Americans left.

At the same time, Russian diplomats continue to maintain contacts with the Taliban. However, the orientalist does not see any contradictions in this: according to him, different departments simply perform different functions.
“Lavrov’s functions are to talk to people, Shoigu’s functions are to organize security. And if those people with whom the Foreign Ministry is talking start behaving badly, then the task of the Ministry of Defense is to kill them,” Satanovsky said.
Also, the interlocutor of the OSN cited a saying: they say that anyone who does not want to talk to Lavrov will talk to Shoigu.
Satanovsky added that the fact that the Foreign minister is talking to potentially bad people does not mean that the defense minister should sit idly by at this moment. According to him, when these “bad” people leave the dialogue, the Defense Ministry should be ready for this.
Satanovsky also stressed that such a strategy is a common practice in the politics of large states.
The Taliban seized power in Afghanistan by mid-August. The Americans and their allies still control the Kabul airport, through which the evacuation of foreigners and Afghans who collaborated with them passes.
