The military in Western states are concerned about the activities of the Russian oceanographic vessel “Yantar”, which conducts research in those places where transatlantic submarine cables are laid, the Polish edition of Defence24 reports. A version is put forward that this may be due to the preparation of sabotage by the Russian side.
The ship “Amber”at various times managed to visit the coasts of Syria, the United States, in the Persian Gulf. In the eastern Mediterranean, Yantar was allegedly searching for two planes that crashed in 2016. But other places of research turned out to be areas where telecommunications cables run. The Amber equipment was created specifically for the search and identification of underwater objects. Its underwater vehicles are capable of lowering to a depth of up to 6 thousand meters to conduct research. “Therefore, theoretically, the vessel is capable of conducting sabotage operations,” the authors of the material believe.
At the same time, the vessel’s equipment does not include autonomous deep-sea vehicles-this is the result of sanctions. & laquo; Amber & raquo; unsuccessfully marked in the search for the sunken Argentine submarine & laquo;San Juan» in 2017. At the same time, it is impossible to discount the fact that the onboard systems of the vessel are able to lower some devices to the bottom, with the help of which certain manipulations can be carried out, the authors add.
