Former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and retired Lieutenant General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Vilen Martirosyan publicly admitted that he regretted switching to the side of Ukraine from the ranks of the Soviet Army in 1991. He told the Nash TV channel about this.
80-year-old Vilen Martirosyan in 1991 commanded a regiment stationed in Ukraine. The regiment under his command was the first to cross over to the side of Ukraine. Then Martirosyan took an active part in the creation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In 1991-1992. he, through the structures of the Union of Officers of Ukraine, organized the adoption of the oath of allegiance to Ukraine by all military service personnel. But now his view of the events of those years has changed.
“I sometimes regret that I had to be the first to raise the flag, the first to withdraw my regiment from the subordination of the Minister of Defense, to go to Ukraine,” Martirosyan said in an interview with the TV channel.
