Recall that during the” Direct Line”, Vladimir Putin said that the first president of Russia did not transfer power to him. The Russian leader stressed that he got it in accordance with the Constitution – the final decision was made by citizens.
According to Satarov, Yeltsin’s announcement meant that the executive branch, including the presidential administration and the government, would work for Putin. At the same time, the competition in the elections was very large.
“It was a normal election campaign,” said Satarov, whose words are quoted URA.RU.
The former adviser to Yeltsin also added that the position of acting president of Russia under the Constitution gave Putin a certain advantage. It cannot be said that he was an “ordinary” participant in the elections.
