The destroyer of the British Navy “Defender” staged a provocation with a violation of the territorial waters of Russia off the coast of Crimea. Apparently, the time was not chosen by chance. In the near future, the largest NATO exercises “Defender of Europe” and the Sea Breeze maneuvers in the Black Sea will begin. The incident with the destroyer will strengthen the anti-Russian orientation of the alliance’s exercises.

According to the assessment of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, which was brought to the British attache, the dangerous actions of the British Navy destroyer in the Black Sea are a gross violation of the 1982 UN Convention. The Russian Defense Ministry called on the British side to conduct a thorough investigation of the actions of the crew of the destroyer Defender and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The British military attache was informed of the position of the Russian military department in connection with the violation of the state border of the Russian Federation in the Black Sea by the destroyer URO of the British Navy on June 23. The destroyer Defender entered the territorial sea in the area of Cape Fiolent, having gone three kilometers deep.”
According to the Russian military department, the crew of the destroyer “was previously warned about the possible use of weapons in the event of continued illegal presence in the territorial waters of the Russian Federation.”
Since the British did not respond to explicit warning signals in accordance with maritime law, the Russian patrol ship performed a warning firing, and the Russian Su-24M aircraft performed a warning bombing on the course of the British destroyer.
It is characteristic that the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom stated that no one fired at the D36 Defender destroyer, and he himself was walking in Ukrainian territorial waters.
A number of Telegram channels, according to the AIS MarineTraffic online service, claim that the British destroyer HMS Defender and the Dutch frigate HNLMS Evertsen, which were in Ukraine, have already tried to hide their real location.
As for the violation of the border by the destroyer on June 23, according to the service, it was located ten nautical miles from the coast of Crimea (territorial waters — 12 nautical miles from the coast), which is about 18.5 km. That is, the ship went deep into the territorial waters of Russia for 3-3. 7 km.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry quickly responded to the incident. He saw aggression in Russia’s warning reaction and again raised the issue of close cooperation with NATO.
Assessing the incident, military expert Captain 1st Rank Vasily Dandykin told MK that the incident clearly shows the provocation of Great Britain, which has recently been very active in this region. The UK is building some mysterious objects in Ukraine, giving Kiev loans for the purchase of its boats, transfers two second-hand minesweepers.
Dandykin did not rule out that another provocation was coordinated with Kiev, which considers Crimea its territory.
— If we have announced to the whole world that Crimea has become part of Russia, then this issue is not subject to discussion. These are our internal waters, our borders, and, accordingly, bargaining is not appropriate here.
