The Guardian explained the meaning of the exploded object
The sabotage on the Kerch Bridge connecting the Krasnodar Territory with the Crimean Peninsula caused a response in the Western media.
Commenting on the incident on the bridge, the British edition of The Guardian calls the attacked structure a “hateful” symbol for Ukraine and one of Vladimir Putin’s “prestigious projects.”
“The images from the bridge show how a burning fire engulfed at least two railway cars of the train on the bridge, accompanied by a huge column of black smoke, and half of the parallel automobile bridge collapsed into the Kerch Strait,” writes The Guardian.
Talking about the act of sabotage, the British edition reminds its readers that this “bridge, built by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin and opened in 2018, was a key transport link for the delivery of military equipment to Russian soldiers fighting in Ukraine, especially in the south, as well as for the transfer of troops there.”
“Russia claimed that the bridge is safe, despite the fighting in Ukraine, but threatened Kiev with reprisals in case of an attack”, writes The Guardian.
At the same time, the publication quotes the words of Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to the Ukrainian president, in which he actually takes Kiev’s responsibility for the explosions on the bridge.
The Kerch Bridge, writes The Guardian, is very symbolic for Russia and an important supply route for Russian troops in Crimea and neighboring areas.
The British edition also notes that the explosion occurred after the Russian president celebrated his 70th birthday.
