China has strongly protested to the United States over the bill, which involves the allocation of military assistance to Taiwan. This statement was made by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Mao Ning.
The US Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs approved the relevant bill the day before. It assumes the allocation of $4.5 billion to Taiwan over four years. In addition, credit guarantees are provided for military purchases in the amount of up to $ 2 billion, as well as the assignment of the status of “the main US ally outside NATO”. The legislative initiative, after being approved by the relevant committee as a bill entitled “On Taiwan Policy”, goes to the consideration of the entire upper house of the American Congress.
“The relevant bill seriously violates the obligations of the United States to China on the Taiwan issue,” the diplomat said during a briefing. – Violates the principle of “one China” and the provisions of the three joint Sino-American communiques.” The representative of the Foreign Ministry stressed that the developed document is an intervention inChina’s internal affairs, it violates international law and the basic norms of relations between countries. The bill, among other things, according to the Chinese side, sends a “serious false signal to separatist forces” advocating Taiwan independence.
“China strongly opposes and has already made a strict representation to the United States,” Mao Ning stressed.
