Former German Minister for Environmental Protection and Nuclear Safety and one of the leaders of the Union 90Greens party, Jurgen Trittin, said that Turkey should be punished for its desire to communicate with Russia. This is reported by the German newspaper Die Welt.
According to the publication, such an initiative was caused by the desire of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
“I think that Turkey, which is a member of NATO, is doing much more to circumvent European anti-Russian sanctions than China. Earlier, the Turkish president slowed down the entry of Sweden and Finland into the North Atlantic Alliance, and now he plans to join the SCO together with Iran,” Trittin said.
According to him, at the moment it is necessary to consider and introduce some kind of economic coercive measures against Turkey.
