51-year-old Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid came up with a way to contain Russia in the European Union with the benefit of the Baltic countries.

As the politician said in an interview with the journal Diplomaatia, now the Baltic countries spend more than 2% of GDP on defense, but still do not have their own air defense system.

According to her, the EU meets every year and discusses the development of the defense potential of the member states and for five years in a row, the Baltic states have been talking about the absence of an intermediate-range air defense system.

In this regard, she proposed, finally, to create a mechanism by which it would be possible to redistribute costs and create a medium-range air defense system in the Baltic states that would help “contain Russia”.
