The Minister of Economic Recovery of Japan, Yasutoshi Nishimura, said that a state of emergency is being introduced in Tokyo due to the situation with the coronavirus. NHK reports that the strengthening of security measures will begin on July 12 and will last until August 22.
During the period of the emergency regime, the sale of alcohol in bars and restaurants will be limited, and karaoke will be banned. Local residents are advised to refrain from traveling between the regions of the country during summer holidays and vacations, as well as from holding the Obon Memorial Day, when Japanese people visit their relatives living in other prefectures.
It is specified that the emergency regime will last in Okinawa, and the regime of enhanced security measures in four more prefectures-Saitama, Kanagawa, Osaka and Chiba.
On Thursday, the Japanese authorities, together with the International Olympic and Paralympic Committee, will hold a meeting at which they will decide on the need to revise the restrictions on the number of spectators at the competitions. Now it is up to 50% of the total number of seats in a particular arena, but not more than 10 thousand people.
