The Honorary Emperor of Japan Akihito was taken to the hospital on Monday for eye surgery, NHK TV channel reports.
As noted, the honorary emperor on Monday morning, accompanied by his wife, the Honorary Empress Michiko, went to the hospital at the University of Tokyo, where he will have an operation to remove cataracts on his left eye.
After that, on September 25, he will have cataracts and glaucoma removed from his right eye.
According to the TV channel, the decision on operations was made by doctors due to the progression of lens opacity. Along the way, glaucoma was diagnosed in the right eye.
Honorary Emperor Akihito, who will celebrate his 89th birthday in December, was taken to the hospital this summer with signs of heart failure. As a result of his discharge, his health was assessed as good.
