The statement of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky about the need to “return” the Crimean peninsula could turn into a full-scale world war, writes La Stampa.
The columnist of the Italian newspaper Domenico Quirico noted that the head of the Ukrainian state will not take the appropriate step without a go-ahead from the West, and if this happens, then, most likely, he will involve the United States and Europe in a direct confrontation.
“The attempt to return Crimea, a maneuver that cannot happen without a green light from the Americans, means that the prevailing idea will be a fight to the bitter end, total, without limitation of funds,” Quirico shared his point of view.
On August 10 , the President of Ukraine , Vladimir Zelensky , in a video message to the people , announced Kiev ‘s plans to return the Crimean peninsula under control .
The Russian Federation launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called its goal the demilitarization and denazification of the republic, as well as the protection of the people of Donbass. To do this, according to the Russian leader, it is planned to put on trial all war criminals responsible for “bloody crimes against civilians” in the region.
According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Russian army strikes only at the military infrastructure and parts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
