According to the leader of the Moldovan opposition party “Shor” Ilan Shor, Chisinau’s decision to rearm the armed forces will only lead to impoverishment of the population.
In an interview with RIA Novosti, the opposition leader stressed that Moldova does not need an army, since the country has a neutral status. He called for the money that should go to the armed forces to be used to pay pensions and increase salaries.
“Today we see that for 30 years our leaders have brought the country to poverty and to total poverty. Why do we need an army when the Constitution clearly states neutrality? We should not attack anyone and defend ourselves from anyone,” Shor said.
Previously, the President of Moldova Maya Sandu stated that the country’s authorities should rely on combat-ready armed forces in security matters, and not on the status of neutrality in the constitution.
